Marseille vs Bordeaux
France Ligue 1,
Date: Sunday, 15 August 2021
Kick-off 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Orange Velodrome.
Marseille are looking to back up the victorious start to the 2021/22 Ligue 1 campaign with another three-pointer on Sunday evening when struggling Bordeaux come to visit Orange Velodrome.
Marseille and Bordeaux opened the new Ligue 1 season in a completely different manner. The former team turned a two-goal deficit into a victory over Montpellier away at Stade de la Mosson, while the latter outfit fell 0-2 at home to newly-promoted Clermont.
Marseille changed almost everything they could in between the two seasons.
The head coach Jorge Sampaoli used seven new players in his starting eleven in the season-opening game against Montpellier seven days ago.
He also decided to push Dimitri Payet up front as a lone striker in the absence of Arkadiusz Milik (injured). The former West Ham United winger responded with a phenomenal performance and a brace.
Sampaoli’s men looked so inspired up front, they seemed to have numerous solutions to unlock Montpellier’s defense.
Possibly even more importantly, the team showed a fantastic spirit to come back from being two goals behind against a tricky opposition.
The hosts will thus be massive favorites in our eyes here against Bordeaux who came up with a disappointing display in a 0-2 home loss to Clermont.
Les Girondins lacked defensive meticulousness on the occasion, allowing the newly-promoted team to have 19 shots (10 on target) and take 10 corners.
Although Bordeaux lead the head to head tie by 4 wins coming into their 55th clash against Les Phocians, Marseille have been much more successful in the games played at Velodrome.
Marseille will thus go into this tie on the back of five successive victories over Bordeaux in their own backyard.
Overall, Marseille won three and drew two of the last five clashes against Les Girondins.
Everything points towards another pleasant evening for Marseille’s fans and a comprehensive home win just has to be the way to go from the betting perspective here.
Bordeaux’s defense allowed double-digit number of shots on target and corners against the likes of Clermont last weekend.
Marseille, who produced a phenomenal attacking showing at Montpellier, could grab even more impressive attacking numbers here.
