Peter Green - January 14, 2019
Mansfield vs Crawley
England – League Two
Date: Tuesday, 15th January 2019
Kick-off at 19.45 UK/ 20.45 CET
Venue: Field Mill (Mansfield).
Mansfield looks like a team with a purpose and has been tearing the League Two down with their stellar performances. They were unlucky to have lost a high-scoring league game against one of their fellow competitors in the play-off zone, but all through this season, they have been on point in their objective of securing promotion to the League One.
Crawley welcomed the new year with two wins on the trot after a series of bad performances in 2018. The team is not in any immediate danger of demotion, and the safety that knowledge provides them may have had a hand in making them a bit relaxed on the field. The players do not seem motivated enough to make something out of the season. But the turn of the new year has brought some changes, and fans will be hoping the attitude would stick on.
The team from Nottinghamshire has been a beast at home this season. They have faced only a solitary loss at home in the league in 2018-19. The loss that they suffered the last match-day will be driving them with vigor to get back to winning ways. The home-status for the tie will surely be helping them in the objective.
The Reds have been a disaster on the road this season. It’s true that the team won both of their last matches, but the point to note is that either of these came at home. On top of that, they will be going against a wounded Mansfield, while being saddled with the away status to slow them down.
The head-to-head stats too support a home win. The Yellows have a 4-1 lead at their home against this opponent. Adding to that, Gabriele Cioffi’s men have conceded goals in nine of their last ten matches on the road.
I predict a 2-0 win for the hosts, who would like to get into the automatic qualification zone. Right now just one point separates them from the cut-off line.
