Steffen Schmidt - June 1, 2023
Manchester City vs Manchester United
English FA Cup
Date: 3 June 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: Wembley Stadium (London).
City and United will drop the curtain on the season in English elite football on Saturday afternoon when they come across each other in an all-Manchester FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
The Citizens will thus be on their second step of a potential treble, having already claimed the Premier League silverware and looking ahead of the UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan.
Manchester United are also searching for their second title of the season having beaten Newcastle in the League Cup final earlier in the season.
It is fair to say that both Manchester rivals have had successful campaigns this season. Manchester City have found the right form just when it mattered most.
Pep Guardiola’s men have managed nine successive wins in the Premier League since late-February to lock in the title with three games to spare.
They have also eliminated the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid on the way to the UEFA Champions League final, bagging three and four goals respectively past these heavyweights in the home clashes at the Etihad Stadium.
It is thus easy to see why the Citizens are set as heavy favorites on Saturday. Do we see the value in backing their win at the 1.50 odds, though?
The answer is no, especially because Manchester United have had a great campaign in general under Erik ten Hag this season.
Also, the Red Devils will come into this on a high after winning four games on the trot, including the 4-1 drubbing of Chelsea nine days ago at the Old Trafford.
Manchester City are the best team in Europe based on everything we have seen this season but we just can’t see any value in backing them to beat bitter city rivals on the neutral venue at the 1.50 odds. Instead, we will take Manchester United or draw double chance pick as the main option at the 2.50 odds.
Manchester United have been very difficult to break down under Erik ten Hag this season. De Gea has kept the most clean sheets out of all Premier League clubs this season. We would not be surprised to see the Red Devils keeping this a low-scoring tie. The Under 2.5 goals FT pick is paid at the 2.30 odds.
