It’s all set for the first episode of clash of the titans as Manchester City play host to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their mouth-watering UEFA Champions League quarterfinal at Etihad Stadium.
Both outfits have reached this stage without too many problems. The Citizens easily won the group with Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund, and Copenhagen before storming past RB Leipzig in the last 16 round.
Erling Haaland starred in his previous Champions League start, bagging five of his side’ seven goals in the home drubbing of Leipzig in the second leg in Manchester.
Haaland is the joint-top scorer of the competition together with Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah with 10 goals each. Mbappe and Salah were eliminated at the first obstacle in the knockout phase, leaving the Norwegian predator as the main favorite for the competition’s golden boot award at the end of the season.
Speaking of Haaland, he is back to full health after skipping the international duty as well as the win over Liverpool. He started the weekend’s game at Southampton, bagging two goals in his team’s comprehensive 1-4 victory at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Bayern Munich eased past the likes of Barcelona and Inter Milan in the group stage of the Champions League before eliminating PSG in the last 16 round without conceding in either leg.
This was, however, not enough for the team’s board to keep Julian Nagelsmann who inexplicable parted ways with the Bavarians to open space for former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to take charge.
While Tuchel did return the reigning Bundesliga champions to the top of the domestic league table with an easy win over the main rivals Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker, Bayern Munich did not shine in his following two games against Freiburg.
The Bavarians were forced out of the DFB Pokal after a shocking home loss at the hands of Freiburg seven days ago. They did manage to get a revenge on Saturday in the league clash against the same opponent but only thanks to Matthijs De Ligt’s stunner in what was another dismal display from the German heavyweights.
Manchester City are enjoying a phenomenal spell of form at the moment. The win over Southampton was the eighth on the trot for Pep Guardiola and his machinery. The Citizens have bagged 31 goals in the process.
They’ll have plenty of space to deliver here past the leaky Bayern Munich defense as the Bavarians have kept their net untouched just 6 times in the last 18 outings across competitions. We’ll take Man City to win & Over 2.5 goals FT pick at the 2.40 odds, while we also have to go with Erling Haaland to score the first goal of the game at the 3.40 odds.
