Steffen Schmidt - August 18, 2023
Malmo vs Djurgarden
Swedish Allsvenskan
Date: 20 August 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 14:00 UK / 15:00 CET
Venue: Eleda Stadion (Malmo).
Malmo’s title ambitions have suffered a blow last weekend when they shockingly lost the away fixture to Mjallby.
Henrik Rydstrom’s troops completely dominated the pitch from the first to the final whistle, registering a double-digit number of shots on target on the occasion.
Nevertheless, it all counted for little as Malmo had to settle for a slender defeat, the one that kept the team behind the likes of Elfsborg and Hacken at the top of the Allsvenskan standings.
Malmo will now be under big pressure on Sunday afternoon when they play host to Djurgarden in the most exciting game of Matchday No 20 at Eleda Stadion.
Djurgarden are fourth in the league table but there are as many as eight points dividing these two outfits ahead of the tie.
The visitors will also enter the match off the back of a defeat as they allowed a second-half comeback seven days ago away at IFK Goteborg.
Djurgarden have generally been struggling to translate the great home form into away outings since the beginning of the season.
Only two if their ten league victories have thus come away from home so far in the season. This is by no means a promising stat ahead of the clash at one of the toughest stadiums to conquer in this competition.
The time has come for Malmo to finally terminate the negative trend in the H2H games against Djurgarden. They have a fantastic home record with eight wins in ten league fixtures at Eleda Stadion this term and they desperately need a win here to keep ground on the likes of Elfsborg and Hacken in the title race.
The home win is our main betting option at the 1.66 odds while we will alternatively back the hosts to keep a clean sheet at the 2.50 odds knowing they own the second-best defensive record in the whole league.
