Mainz host Bochum in an important bottom-half clash in the 18th round of Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon at MEWA ARENA.

The two teams are separated by only four points down in the relegation scrap. Mainz fell to the 12th position in the league table after a run of six subsequent affairs without a win.

A potential defeat here would further complicate things for Bo Svensson and his troops ahead of the second half of the season.

Mainz got an early lead in the mid-week’s clash against Borussia Dortmund, but they got unlucky to ship the late goal in the third minute of added time (Giovanni Reyna) to eventually lose 1-2 at MEWA ARENA.

Bo Svensson’s troops did not look great in the last weekend’s 1-1 stalemate to Stuttgart either which is why we find it very hard to justify the 1.70 price-tag for their victory here.

One of the key reasons for such pricing is Bochum’s horrendous road form. The team led by Thomas Letsch lost eight of nine Bundesliga outings away from home this season.

Nevertheless, Bochum did manage a comfortable 3-1 victory over direct relegation rivals Hertha Berlin seven days ago in a six-pointer.

They do have enough quality in their ranks to take advantage of Mainz’s negative momentum and we would not be surprised to see them getting a result on Saturday at MEWA ARENA.

With all due respect to Mainz, we don’t see any value in their win at the 1.70 odds. Bo Svensson’s squad have just one win in nine league outings on the home turf this season.

We will thus take Bochum to win or draw double chance bet at the 2.10 odds. You can alternatively take the Under 2.5 goals FT bet at the 2.00 odds given that we expect a tight and nervous affair between the two relegation strugglers.
