Peter Green - August 6, 2019
Luzern vs Espanyol
Europa League Qualification
Date: Thursday, 8 August 2019
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Swissporarena (Luzern).
After six of the total eight teams in the Swiss League finished just three points apart from each other, Luzern managed to snatch the last Europa League spot for themselves but will be ruing their mistakes throughout the past season, as Lugano, with the same number of points got a direct-ticket to the competition.
To add insult to injury, they are now faced with the task of taking on Espanyol, from the mighty La Liga. There’s no question about the quality of the Spanish League, and a representative from the competition will definitely come out on top against almost any other squad from a league, other than the top-five European ones.
As mentioned earlier, Espanyol is a part of the La Liga, while their opposite number comes from the Swiss Super League. This alone would be enough to determine to whom the tag of the favorites goes.
On top of that, the Spanish outfit is on a stretch of ominous form. The only three losses they have faced since the end of January this year have been against Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla. At present, the team is unbeaten in their last 14 fixtures on the trot and won seven of the last eight as well.
On the road, the squad is once again invincible in their last eight, and in 12 of their last 13. They had also found the back of the net twice or more in seven of their last eight away ties too.
Meanwhile, their Swiss rivals were winless in five of their last seven at home and could score a total of just one goal from their last three match-ups.
With these in mind, expect the guests to take control of the proceedings this Thursday.
