Aron Wright - October 23, 2020

Liverpool vs Sheffield United
English Premier League
Date: Saturday, 24 October 2020
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Anfield.

The Blades are the worst team in the competition at the moment – something hugely unexpected after the cracker of a campaign they had in 2019-20. As of now, they have lost all but one of their games in the league, and have scored the least number of goals so far – just two.

And to top it all off, they are pitted against none other than the defending champions.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have failed to start their season on a positive note, and they just had a huge setback the last week. Virgil Van Dijk will probably be out for a period of seven-eight months due to an ACL injury, and suddenly the Reds do not seem that intimidating anymore.

On top of that, their arch-rivals Everton seem to be nigh unstoppable, and are at the top of the table with four wins and a draw.

Suffice it to say that the title-holders need a huge win to get their confidence back, and this match-up could not have come at anytime better.

Count on the desperate Liverpool to make the most of this fixture against the current worst team in the tournament, and post a convincing win.

Liverpool vs Sheffield United: Head-to-head (h2h)

  • Klopp’s men are on a three-match winning run against this opponent, and they kept clean sheets in all these games.
  • The last Chris Wilder’s men won against this rival was back in 1994.
  • In the past 26 years, not once have the guests scored a goal at Anfield.
  • In the past three decades, the home team has a 100% winning record at this venue, barring a single game in 1994.

Liverpool vs Sheffield United: Prediction

The Reds were held to a 2-2 draw on the road the last match-day, by Everton. In the meantime, the Blades were held to a 1-1 draw at home the past game week, by Fulham, the worst team in the league.

As things stand, Wilder’s men are the weakest of the whole lot in the PL, and their place in the bottom-most tier of the table is absolutely deserved. They have a 100% losing record this season, barring their draw against Fulham, and they have scored a total of two goals till now.

On the other hand, their counterparts are the defending champions, and they also have been phenomenal at home. In fact, the only loss Klopp’s men have had at this stadium in the past 12-month period was against Atletico Madrid, and that too in the CL, in extra time.

On top of that, they also have a tremendous h2h record against this opponent over the past years, and particularly recently.

As such, expect Liverpool to deliver a win this weekend. Count on them to go after a huge win as well, in order to bring their confidence back.
