Steffen Schmidt - September 1, 2023
Liverpool vs Aston Villa
English Premier League
Date: 3 September 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 14:00 UK / 15:00 CET
Venue: Anfield (Liverpool).
Ten-man Liverpool completed an amazing late comeback on one of the toughest grounds to play last weekend, beating Newcastle 1-2 at St. James’ Park.
Jurgen Klopp made the right moves to slow down the Magpies after Virgil van Dijk’s first-half red card as his golden substitute Darwin Nunez got big with a late brace upon coming on from the bench.
The Reds now have seven out of nine possible points in the opening three rounds despite two tough away games against Chelsea and Newcastle in the process.
Their tricky schedule will continue on Sunday afternoon as the red-hot Aston Villa come to visit Anfield in one of the most interesting matches of the weekend.
Villa are flying high after an inaugural catastrophe at St. James’ Park. Since the 5-1 loss at Newcastle, Unai Emery’s troops have managed back-to-back commanding wins over Everton and Burnley, bagging seven goals in the process.
The Lions have also put five goals past Hibernian in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League playoffs in Edinburgh in the meantime.
Liverpool’s leaky back line will be even weaker without suspended van Dijk, meaning we can expect a goal fest on Sunday.
Liverpool to win & Both Teams To Score is a very attractive betting pick at the 2.75 odds based on everything we have seen from the two teams in the inaugural three rounds of the season. Both teams are clinical in the final third and yet both leave plenty of space behind which guarantees a fun and entertaining affair at Anfield.
The second pick is Over 3.5 goals FT at the 2.10 odds while you will hardly make a mistake backing the Over 2.5 goals FT & Both Teams To Score bet at the 1.72 odds either.
