Peter Green - October 18, 2018
Limerick vs St. Patrick’s Athletic
Republic of Ireland – Premier Division
Date: Friday, 19 October 2018
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Markets Field (Limerick).
Tommy Barrett is fed up with his team. They are currently placed 9th in the league. The Super Blues were 7th when last season ended.
After 34 games this season they are in the relegation spot with a chance to play play-offs against a team from the first division. Winning only 7 and losing 21 games they may suffer in that play-off.
The team lost to Cork City in their last match away. Things were easy for Cork city throughout the game. With 40% possession in the whole match Blues never looked like a threat for the home team.
Corks took the lead in the 2nd minute since kickoff and finished the half with 1-0 lead. They came back in the second half added another in the 53rd minute and late in injury time to seal their 3 points.
Barrett’s team however were undisciplined, picking up 3 yellow cards for tackles.
Forwards are not performing for them. Their best goal scorer is Danny Morrissey with 5 goals in 24 caps this season.
St.Patricks finished 8th last season. The five time champions cannot achieve a top-3 finish this season. Currently the team of Ger. O’Brien are 5th in the league with 44 points in 34 games.
Saints will have to win this match if they want to stay there. O’Brien’s boys will most probably take advantage of the sorry home side.
Limerick does not have a chance to overcome a possible win for the away side. Barrett’s team have lost their way after 2 consecutive losses in the division.
With their recent performances against Corks and Derry City, even their hardcore fans will have not much hope.
Conan Byrne of the Saints may look to improve his goal tally-7 goals-against the Blues.
