Vancouver Whitecaps will be chasing their third win on the bounce on Friday evening when they take on CONCACAF Champions League winners Leon in the first game of the 2023 Leagues Cup campaign for both outfits.
The Canadian side continued their tremendous attacking form on Saturday when they dispatched LA Galaxy 4-2 on the home patch.
Vanni Sartini’s men have notched at least two goals in four of the last five MLS outings. They play very attractive football and are among the most efficient teams in the league with 38 goals scored in 22 matches.
The Caps broke into the top seven in the Western Conference table after back-to-back home wins over Austin and Los Angeles Galaxy.
They are certainly the form favorites ahead of this tie, knowing that Leon have lost two of the inaugural three games at the start of the 2023/24 Mexican Liga MX campaign.
Leon showed strength earlier this year by beating MLS Cup winners Los Angeles FC both home and away in the CONCACAF Champions League final, though.
They have also demolished Pachuca 4-0 in front of the home fans in between two defeats in the domestic league.
Leon’s manager will need to pay close look at Brian White and Ryan Gauld who have 15 goals combined in MLS for the Whitecaps this season.
Nevertheless, Leon have predators of their own in their ranks, meaning we have all the ingredients for a high-scoring thriller on Friday at BC Place.
