Leon vs Cruz Azul
Mexico – Liga MX Final
Date: Monday, 19 July 2021
Kick-off at 23:00 UK/ 00:00 CET
Venue: Dignity Health Sports Park.
It’s been 39 years since Leon last lifted this trophy, while it’s been 37 for Cruz Azul. Both teams are dead-determined to secure a win this weekend, and we are certainly about to witness a fierce encounter.
Leon were the champions of the Apertura, as they absolutely went on a rampage, and posted an eight-point lead at the top. Defense was their major strength, as they managed to concede the least number of goals of all the teams in the league.
However, in the Clausura, the team lost their form, and had to settle for a sixth-place finish.
Instead Cruz Azul secured the title, and once again defense was a major factor, as the team let in a total of just 11 goals from their 17 games. Do also note that they had scored the most goals as well.
Judging the loss of form of Leon, and the h2h superiority of Cruz Azul, expect a win for the latter this Sunday.
Both teams have phenomenal defense, which contributed to their success the past season. As such, the expectation is that goals will be few this Sunday.
Moreover, this is a one-off game for a major title, and it’s been close to four decades since either team has lifted it. Surely they are not going to take risks, and will prioritize safety first.
However, Cruz Azul have been in better form lately, and they also have the better h2h record in recent times.
As such, expect a narrow win for them this Sunday at the Dignity Health Sports Park.
