Steffen Schmidt - August 4, 2023
Leeds vs Cardiff
English Championship
Date: 6 August 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 14:30 UK / 15:30 CET
Venue: Elland Road (Leeds).
Leeds are back to Championship after four years after finishing the previous Premier League campaign second from bottom.
The lack of defensive meticulousness was the main reason for the drop as no other top flight outfit have shipped more than Leeds’ 78 goals last time out.
The Peacocks are, however, tipped to be among the main favorites for the immediate promotion back to the elite class ahead of the start to the 2023/24 Championship campaign.
Daniel Farke’s men will begin the new season with the home fixture against Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon at Elland Road.
The German manager has obviously done a lot of work on improving his team’s defensive holes as Leeds’ back line looked fairly solid in four preseason outings.
Leeds kept back-to-back clean sheets in the wins over Nottingham Forest and Hearts in the previous two friendlies.
We fancy them to do well on Sunday against Cardiff City who finished the previous Championship campaign with the second-worst attacking record in the division.
The Bluebirds ended just one place above the relegation zone last time out. They haven’t shown any improvements whatsoever in this segment in the preseason, failing to find the back of the net in three consecutive exhibitions against Sporting Braga, Porto, and Wycombe.
Farke has worked a lot on improving his team’s defensive showings this summer and the clash against Cardiff City represents an ideal opportunity for the Peacocks to keep things quiet at the back. We’ll back the hosts to win to nil as the main pick at the odds of 2.25.
Patrick Bamford should be fit to start after skipping most of the last season in the top flight. He was on target in the last week’s friendly against Nottingham Forest and we will back Leeds’ talisman to find the back of the net on Sunday at the 2.37 odds.
