Lazio extended their domestic crisis with a 0-2 home defeat at the hands of Atalanta in the direct battle for the top-four finish in the Serie A on Saturday evening.
I Biancocelesti are now winless in four consecutive outings in all competitions. The run includes the Coppa Italia elimination by Juventus.
The team led by Maurizio Sarri are now two points shy of three direct rivals in the battle for the top-four finish in their domestic league and they will be desperate to shift the fortunes around as soon as possible.
Lazio will get a nice chance to boost up the team’s spirits on Thursday evening when they play host to CFR Cluj in the UEFA Europa Conference League knockout stage playoffs at Stadio Olimpico.
The visitors won’t come into the match in much higher spirits either, following their shocking back-to-back losses in their domestic division.
CFR Cluj failed to find the back of the net in the last two Liga I games against FCSB and Universitatea Craiova.
They are still second in the league standings with a two-point deficit to leaders FCV Farul Constanta.
Cluj managed to beat Slavia Prague both home and away in this term of Conference League to secure the top-two finish in Group G. However, it is worth noting that they got zero points from the two clashes with the likes of Sivasspor.
Lazio, on the other side, joined the Conference League after failing to secure a top-two finish in their respective Europa League group alongside Midtjylland, Sturm Graz, and Feyenoord.
Neither of the teams will enter the game on a high. The quality is on Lazio’s side, though, and we expect them to boost up the confidence with a statement victory against the Romanian opposition on the home patch.
