Steffen Schmidt - August 18, 2023
Kalmar vs Hammarby
Swedish Allsvenskan
Date: 20 August 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 16:30 UK / 17:30 CET
Venue: Guldfageln Arena (Kalmar).
Kalmar and Hammarby will enter their Matchday No 20 clash on Sunday afternoon at Guldfageln Arena in completely opposite spirits.
The hosts have not been pulling up any trees of late, losing four and drawing one of the previous five matches in all competitions.
The run includes two separate UEFA Conference League defeats to Armenian side Pyunik, as well as a catastrophic 3-0 loss to the out-of-form Sirius last Sunday in the domestic league.
Danish manager Henrik Jensen can thus be worried about his job because the fans certainly expect much more from the team that finished the previous Allsvenskan campaign inside the top four in the league standings.
To make things tougher for him, Kalmar will face the in-form Hammarby on Sunday. Hammarby have tightened things up defensively of late, shipping just one goal in the last two league outings.
It is an impressive series of wins if we know they’ve faced the likes of Norrkoping and Elfsborg along the way.
It takes a strong defensive side to keep a clean sheet against Elfsborg and that’s exactly what Hammarby have done seven days ago, limiting the division leaders to just four attempts on target in the 90 minutes of play on the occasion.
Hammarby go into this in much higher spirits but we would be very cautious because everything else is on Kalmar’s side actually. Hammarby won only two of the last 17 away matches against Kalmar who have generally offered incomparably better displays at home than on the road so far in the 2023 season.
This is why we will rather take Kalmar to win or draw double chance at the 1.50 odds while the alternative pick would be Both Teams To Score at the 1.75 odds.
