Jorge Wilstermann vs Ceara
Copa Sudamericana,
Thursday, 27 May 2021
Kick-off 23:15 UK/ 00:15 CET
Venue: Estadio Felix Capriles.
Ceara will be looking to lock the top spot in Group C on Thursday evening when they travel to Cochabamba to take on the rock-bottomed Jorge Wilstermann in the last round of the Copa Sudamericana group stage.
Ceara picked up their second win of the group phase campaign seven days ago when they dispatched Bolivar 2-0 at Estadio Governador Placido Aderaldo Castelo.
Interestingly, the victory ended the team’s run of three consecutive goalless draws in the competition. At the same time, it has launched Ceara at the top of the Group C standings, leaving them with a crystal clear situation ahead of the final round fixtures.
The Brazilian outfit needs a victory over the last-placed Jorge Wilstermann on Thursday evening to finish the campaign at the top and progress through to the knockout phase.
Ceara should have an easier job because Jorge Wilstermann have already lost all hopes of advancing after clinching no more than two points from the past five Copa Sudamericana outings.
Jorge Wilstermann are generally struggling badly to keep things tight at the back. They have the second-worst defensive record in the entire Bolivian Primera Division with 19 goals conceded in just 7 games in their domestic league.
The hosts shipped at least two goals in eight of the last nine games in all competitions. They do not have a decent home record in Copa Sudamericana either, having won just one of seven home matches in this competition since 2007.
The two teams did not have an opportunity to take on each other before this year.
Ceara celebrated a 3-1 victory when they locked horns with Jorge Wilstermann a month ago at the beginning of the 2021 Copa Sudamericana campaign.
Jorge Wilstermann do not play defense at all. They have no motivation whatsoever here, having claimed just two points from five Copa Sudamericana matches so far.
Ceara failed to clinch the Campeonato Cearense trophy after a goalless draw to local rivals Fortaleza in the weekend’s final of the competition. They are ready to bounce back, here and advance to the knockout stage of the continental competition. Anything but the away win would represent a significant upset for us.
