Is Kompany Running Out of Time at Burnley?

Aron Wright - October 13, 2023

After eight games played in the 2023/24 English Premier League, Burnley are third from bottom in the relegation zone. Is Kompany’s time running out? Find out here.

When a team wins the English Championship (the second tier of men’s professional football in England) so convincingly and then gets promoted to the Premier League, you would expect them to stand a good chance at doing well in their new league.

However, quite often is the case where the opposite happens, and these new teams struggle, which is exactly what we are seeing happen with newly promoted Burnley. After only eight games played, is current manager Vincent Kompany running out of time? Let’s dive straight in to find out.

Will Kompany be the next Premier League manager to be sacked?

There’s no doubt that Vincent Kompany is a good manager. After a brief spell with Anderlecht in Belgium’s First Division A, he joined Burnley in June 2022, shortly after they were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship.

By the end of the season, they had won the league, finishing top with 101 points after 46 games played – 10 points clear of second place Sheffield United and 21 points clear of third place Luton Town. Both clubs were promoted along with Burnley.

It can take a while to adjust to the Premier League, but some club owners don’t have the patience to let them adapt and would rather sack them and find someone who has a better management record in the Premier League.

It’s not looking too good for Vincent Kompany, with Burnley sitting just third from the bottom of the league.

What are the odds telling us?

Final note

For Vincent Kompany to keep hold of his job at Burnley, he must win most of his upcoming Premier League games, including against Brentford away on October 21st, Bournemouth away on October 28th, and then at home to Crystal Palace on November 4th.

Other tough upcoming fixtures in November and December are against Arsenal, West Ham, Sheffield United, Wolves, Brighton, and Everton, to name a few.
