Iran vs Bahrain
World Cup Qualifier
Date: Monday, 7 June 2021
Kick-off at 17:30 UK/ 18:30 CET
Venue: Bahrain National Stadium (Riffa).
It is a big game for both Iran and Bahrain as they are engaged in a tussle to finish top of Group C.
Bahrain come to this match sitting at top of the group with 12 points from their 6 games with Iran at 3rd on 9 points from their 5 matches. Iraq is sandwiched between with 11 points from 5 games making this a three-horse race.
A win for Bahrain here will put them in the best position to finish top with their final group game against the minnows Hong Kong. At the same time, a draw will keep them waiting until the final group game between Iran and Iraq.
On the other hand, Iran must win their remaining three games to finish top. This seems like a tough task with 2 of those being against Bahrain and Iraq, teams to whom they lost the first leg qualifiers.
It is do or die time for Iran and their downfalls in October 2019 handed them a tough equation to qualify to next round of World Cup qualifiers.
The team did respond well by winning 4 consecutive matches, however the only notable result is a 2-0 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Bahrain on the other hand is a team that has grown in confidence since the 2019 Asian Championship and they are coming to this game on the back of 6 wins from last 8 along with a draw and loss.
This is a clear indication of how things are going to be tough for Iran and they are playing this game in a venue they failed to win in any of their previous appearances.
Therefore, we back Bahrain to avoid a defeat by bigger margins with the game historically producing under 2.5 goals.
Under 2.5 goals @ 1.44 odd
Bahrain +1.5, +1 Handicap @ 1.45 odd.
