Ipswich Town vs Blackburn Rovers
English League Championship
Date: Saturday, 4th August 2018
Kick-off at 15:00 UK/ 16:00 CET
Venue: Portman Road (Ipswich).
Blackburn may have earned their place back into the Championship but have a tough task in the first round going against Ipswich at Portman Road.
The hosts managed a mid-table finish last year. Ipswich started very well the campaign but eventually lost some ground and settled for 12th place. The most important factor though is that the club is going without Mick McCarthy this season after 6 years in charge.
The Tractor boys were not so impressive in the pre-season – 3 victories over lower stature teams with the minimal 1-0 and 2 losses from Premier League side West Ham and Vanarama team Braintree. The team looked to lack goal scoring potential up front which needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.
Blackburn earned a straight promotion back after getting relegated in 16-17 season. The team showed ambition getting some impressive results including a 14 match unbeaten run.
Tony Mowbray’s boys though were far from impressive in their preparations for the new campaign. They had some strange results losing to lower league sides and then suddenly beating Everton with 3-0. They looked a bit inconsistent even in the 5 friendlies they played.
This looks to be an evenly matched encounter. Both sides are likely to be cautious but still possess plenty of option and possibilities up front. The defensive lines are not amongst these sides strengths and it’s likely to see a few goals here.
