Hungary vs Italy
UEFA Nations League
Date: Monday, 26 September 2022
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Puskás Aréna.
Despite being put in the same group with three former world champions, the Hungarians climbed to the top of the table. And they will try their absolute best this Monday to secure a win against the struggling Italians – which should confirm their participation in the semis.
Ever since lifting the Euros, the Italians lost their mojo. They lost some of the best players to injuries, and now they are going through a transition phase as well.
Some of their experienced players announced retirement, and on top of that they had to face the heartbreak of not qualifying for the World Cup.
Then they went ahead and lost the Finalissima against Argentina, and that for a scorecard of 3-0.
At present, they are placed second to last in their group table in the Nations League, and they conceded the most number of goals as well.
Moreover, they are yet to register a win away from home in this edition of the Nations League, and conceded more than double the number of goals than any other team let into their nets in away fixtures.
Meanwhile, the Hungarians are at the top of the table, and have a 100% unbeaten record disregarding a single loss. In fact, barring another draw, they have a 100% winning record too. Note that they also let in the least number of goals of all the teams in the tournament.
Judging recent form and momentum, expect a hard-fought win for Hungary this Monday at their home.
Hungary were unbeaten in seven of their previous nine overall fixtures, and in the process they went on two separate two-game winning streaks. Impressively, they registered a 0-4 win on the road against England in their latest fixture.
Meanwhile, the Italians were winless in seven of their past nine overall fixtures, and they lost their latest game 5-2 against Germany. Note that they were also winless in 12 of their past 16 overall games.
Considering these observations, expect a win for Hungary this Monday.
