The English FA has a structure on how much money each team receives based on their final position. Now, the featured money that the federation is giving out has nothing to do with the money from the TV rights. In fact, every Premier League team gets an equal share of TV money of £31 million.
Three media companies own the Premier League TV rights and they also give out the featured shares to the clubs. The English teams are also getting additional funds from other sources such as sponsorship deals, shirt sales, ticket sales, selling players, etc.
Now, it goes without saying that the winning team gets the biggest share of the prize money. This leaves the team at the bottom with the lowest amount.
So, ending just one position higher will get them a bigger prize money. Football fans should know that the total merit a team gets comes from the UK and international merit.

Teams that finish the Premier League season in the top half of the league table receive the biggest prize money. The winner will feature an estimated total merit of £62.3 million while the runner-up will earn approximately £59.1 million.
The 3rd and 4th teams on the table will receive prize money of around £56 million and £52.9 million, respectively. It’s worth mentioning that the top 4 English teams will also receive additional funds from UEFA. This is due to their successful qualification for the Champions League.
An estimated total merit of £49.9 million will get the team in the 5th spot. This team will also receive prize money from UEFA for their participation in the group stage of the Europa League.
The 6th English team will receive a prize money of £46.7 million while the 7th-placed team earn around £43.6 million. A team that finishes in the 8th spot will feature a total merit of £40.5 million.
Finishing as 9th in the English Premier League gets the team an estimated total merit of £37.4 million. The Team that ends up in the 10th spot will receive around £34.3 million. It’s worth mentioning that the difference between the 1st and 10th English teams is approximately £24.9 million.
Teams that finish at the bottom half of the league table receive significantly lower prize money. As such, the 11th-placed team will have an estimated total merit of £31.1 million. The estimated total merit for the 12th position goes up to £28 million.
To the 13th team on the league table, the FA will give out a prize money of £24.9 million. It will also reward the 14th-placed team with around £21.8 million.
A total merit of £18.6 million and £15.6 million goes out to the 15th and 16th teams, respectively. The team that ends up in the 17th place will get an estimated total merit of £12.5 million. Teams in the 18th and 19th positions get £9.4 million and £6.2 million, respectively.
Finally, the team at the bottom of the Premier League table will receive a prize money of just £3.1 million. It goes without saying that the bottom three teams will also be relegated to the EFL Championship.
The overall prize money difference between the top and the bottom of the league goes up to £59.2 million. It’s a big difference in the total merit, but there is also a large difference in the quality of the teams.
