Transfer Jackpots

These are players who are having a fantastic start to the season with their different clubs, contributing significantly to their teams’ success.

Dani Olmo

Dani Olmo is a sensational player who has been performing well for RB Leipzig over the past five seasons despite remaining under the radar. He had a spectacular Euro campaign for Spain and was extremely important for the team following Pedri’s injury with his performance grabbing the attention of Barcelona fans.

Nonetheless, Barcelona made a summer move for Olmo and it has proven to be an excellent investment, with the Spaniard demonstrating his worth and prowess. He has five League goals in six appearances and has been a key player in Hansi Flick’s attack.

Pedro Neto

Chelsea made a surprising summer move for Wolverhampton star player Pedro Neto to slot in the attack under new manager Enzo Maresca.

Neto is off to a flying start at Chelsea, breaking into the starting lineup despite the Blues’ superior attacking talent. The Portuguese winger has been a key playmaker for Chelsea, making excellent use of his pace.

Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen was the primary topic of conversation in the summer transfer market after his unsuccessful move to Chelsea on deadline day. Galatasaray ultimately signed him, and it looks like the transfer was a perfect fit given his fantastic scoring record.

Osimhen has taken the Turkey Super Lig by storm, with six goals and two assists in six outings so far. He also begun his Europa League campaign with a brace against Tottenham Hotspur.

Riccardo Calafiori

Calafiori has had a sensational start to the season for Arsenal, following his outstanding performances for Italy in the Euros and Bologna last season. The Italian defender has started to prove his worth following his summer transfer to the Premier League heavyweights.

His partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba has been phenomenal and he opened his goal scoring record with a stunning strike against Manchester City in a 2-2 stalemate.

Underwhelming Starts

These are the players who are having a difficult start to the season with their respective new clubs, underperforming relative to expectations and transfer fees.

Kylian Mbappe

The French sensation has underperformed at his new club Real Madrid. Mbappe has yet to demonstrate his full potential this season, which can be ascribed to a shift in his natural position, as he now plays more as a striker due to Vinicius Junior’s role as a Left winger.

Mbappe has scored six goals in eleven La Liga appearances and one goal in the Champions League so far, which is below his peak performance.

Joshua Zirkzee

The Dutch striker was signed to compete with Rasmus Hojlund for the striker position at Manchester United after a standout season with Bologna, but he has failed to live up to expectations.

Zirkzee has gone ten games without a goal for the Red Devils, following his strike against Fulham in the League opener.

Julian Alvarez

Alvarez was Atletico Madrid’s top summer target and was signed for a significant transfer fee. However, the Argentine has had a rough start to the season with his new club.

Julian Alvarez, who scored seventeen goals across all competitions for Manchester City last season, has struggled to find the net for the Spanish team. He has four league goals for Atletico Madrid in thirteen League appearances entering the international break.

Verdict

The 2024/25 season is still in full swing and new players must still establish their worth to the club’s fans and hierarchy. However, while some have begun well, they must maintain their top form as the season unfolds, while those who have underperformed still have plenty of room for development.
