Gremio host Palmeiras for one of the Matchday 10 derby clashes hoping to build on their furious spell of form after bagging seven wins and three draws in ten outings, including a 0-2 win over Bahia on Sunday. They’ve been rock-solid defensively and kept clean sheets in all of their last five outings, which will have them just as motivated to impress at Arena do Gremio.
Palmeiras also come into the match on the back of a great 3-1 win over the city rivals Sao Paulo, but this only ended a three-game winless streak for them! They’ve only held America Mineiro to a 1-1 home draw and suffered losses to Sport Recife and Cruzeiro since late May and this could be far more worrying.
Verdao have not only suffered two losses on their last two trips but they’ve failed to find the net, narrowly beaten by both Corinthians and Cruzeiro. They could thus have trouble finding the net in Porto Alegre as well, as we go into a narrow contest in the making.
We will now back Gremio to end the unwanted streak and build on their rock-solid recent performances, going for a Home win at 2.05. They have struggled to impress against Palmeiras but this does seem a great opportunity for such a quest, seeing the rivals’ woes on the road.
Palmeiras have especially struggled to perform in the attacking third on the road and we’ve seen them fail to make an impact in both of their last two trips. With that in mind, we don’t feel we’ll see many goals on the day either and we’ll also back Under 2.5 goals FT at 1.50 – which has already been rated banker material.
