Ghana vs Benin
Africa Cup of Nations
Date: Tuesday, 25th June 2019
Kick off at 21:00 UK/ 22:00 CET
Venue: Ismaïlia Stadium (Ismaïlia).
It’s been four editions of the African Cup of Nations since Benin last featured in the tournament. The squad have, however, earned their ticket to Egypt this year and will be facing their opening opponents, Ghana, on Tuesday at the Ismailia Stadium.
It is certain that the Black Stars will not be going easy on them by any means and are bound to give them a tough welcoming fixture. The Squirrels come into the clash on the back of a 1-0 win against Guinea on the road. Their recent home match against Togo drew to a close in a similar fashion, so it is safe to say that their currently on a good run of form.
James Kwesi Appiah’s men could not find a winner in their last match against South Africa which ended in a stalemate. His squad will be hoping for a better result when they take on their counterparts and will be eying the top spot in the group as well.
Despite the high hopes and aspirations with which Michel Dussiyer’s men will be coming into the clash on Tuesday, a win against their counterparts just does not look likely to happen.
Although the Black Stars were not at their best in either of their previous two friendlies, which were against South Africa and Namibia, they are most likely to get down to business when they take on The Squirrels in their opening fixture.
Having finished fourth in the last edition of the Cup, their priority this time will be to finish at least a step higher.
Benin’s recent run of form has been decent, with a victory in their last two fixtures. Their run of form on the road, with regard to their last five away matches, however, is a little disappointing. The squad will have to put on much more solid performance if they are to indeed cause an upset in their opening fixture.
Dussiyer’s side have found the back of the net at least once in all of their last three matches. We can expect them to get their name on the score sheet on Tuesday as well, however, the win is definitely for the Black Stars to keep.
