Germany and Colombia will drop the curtain on Gameweek No 2 matches at the 2023 World Cup in Australia/New Zealand on Sunday when they take on each other at Sydney Football Stadium.
The Germans entered the competition in low spirits after a shocking 2-3 defeat to African side Zambia in the final test.
Nevertheless, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s troops bounced back in style when it mattered, scoring six unanswered goals past Morocco in their tournament opener on Monday.
The team’s main star Alexandra Popp unlocked the Africans with a first-half brace, while Klara Buhl and Lea Schuller were also on target in a commanding victory for the European outfit.
Germany will now have a nice chance to secure their place in the knockout phase of the tournament with a win over Colombia.
The South Americans have also started the competition in a victorious fashion, beating South Korea 2-0 five days ago. Linda Caicedo and Catalina Usme were on target for the Colombians on the occasion.
Colombia are among the best teams in South America right now. They made it to the Copa America Femenina final last year, falling 0-1 to Brazil in the big game.
They showed a great display at the start of the 2023 World Cup as well and we have plenty of reasons to expect them to offer a strong resistance to Germany who have shown some hiccups in the preparations for this competition.
Germany are massive favorites according to the bookmakers but we don’t expect them to have an easy job at all here against the Colombians. We must not forget that Colombia only lost the Copa America final to Brazil 0-1 last year.
The South Americans should sit tight at the back and wait for their chances form counter-attacks. We trust their defense and will hence back them not to lose by two or more goals difference at the 2.05 odds.
