Aron Wright - August 17, 2018
Genk vs Sporting Charleroi
Belgium – First Division A
Date: Sunday, 19 August 2018
Kick-Off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Luminus Arena, Genk.
Genk host Sporting Charleroi in one of the most thrilling games of the Matchday on Sunday afternoon at Luminus Arena. The hosts come into it in higher spirits following the Europa League success and two wins over Polish giants Lech Poznan.
Blauw-wit have also done well in domestic affairs where they took seven out of nine possible points in three opening matches. Can they keep the good form going and make it four wins on the bounce across competitions here against the Zebras?
The visitors got off to a slower start winning one and losing two of three matches so far. Whilst the narrow 1-2 loss to Anderlecht (last weekend) can be justified, the one from the inaugural game of the campaign (0-1 to Antwerp) certainly can’t.
Three points from three games marks an underwhelming start for Felice Mazzu and his men who entered the season with the top-six ambitions.
Genk definitely head into the game as favourites, but we have to question the value of the 1.40 odds offered for their victory given that Charleroi will be anything but a naïve opposition here.
Mazzu has a very interesting pair of strikers in the likes of Kaveh Rezaei and Jeremy Perbet who’ve shared the tally of four goals combined in three games so far. You just don’t want to bet against them at the 1.40 odds.
Genk have a much wider spectrum of attacking options as goals can come literally from anywhere. Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinovskiy has been the most lethal of their weapons so far, netting three goals in three appearances.
Knowing that seven of last eight head to head matches provided goals at both ends, we just have to push for the BTTS option set at the 1.80 odds. Genk to win & BTTS also looks attractive at 2.87.
BTTS @ 7/8 (1.87)
Genk to win & BTTS @ 19/10 (2.90).
