Peter Green - September 29, 2019
Galatasaray vs Paris Saint-Germain
Champions League
Date: Tuesday, 1 October 2019
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Türk Telekom Arena (Istanbul).
Paris, to be honest, should have been on the back foot as they hosted Real in the opener. They had none of their celebrated frontline to take on the 13-time champions. And with the returning Zinedine Zidane managing Real Madrid, the Parisians had everything to be tensed.
But still, the French champions responded emphatically and dealt a soul-crushing 3-0 loss to the Spanish guests. And it requires special mention that in the absence of several key-players, Angel Di Maria showed guts in taking the mantle.
Once again Thomas Tuchel will look towards the Argentine to provide a spark to PSG attack. As of now, they stand a good chance to top the group and will try their best to keep the momentum going.
It helps their cause that they are taking on a side from a comparatively weaker Turkish Super Lig. Gala surely is the defending champion on the Super Lig, but they have failed to put on performances that remotely resemble their form of last season.
At present, they have scored a total of just six goals from their five fixtures in the domestic competition and stood winless in three of them.
Once they get going, it would be hard to hold down the Parisians. And with an attacking quadruplet to die for, they surely are favorites this season in the CL. And doing justice to their tag, the team has begun on the right note.
On the other side, we have the Turks, who despite holding the title in the Super Lig, is still considered a minnow in this Group A amongst the likes of Real Madrid.
Furthermore, Tuchel’s men have the confidence of putting to shame the famed Madrid the last day in this competition, whereas Gala was held to a draw by Belgian side, Bruges.
In addition, the Ligue 1 champions had recorded a win to nil the last time these two met and had a clean sheet to go along with it too.
Finally, after years of domestic domination, belief is growing stronger that it’s about time that the French are counted amongst the usual suspects for European glory, and this finally might be the campaign where they would go the distance.
By the looks of things, count on the visitors to put on a great show this Tuesday.
