Neither FC Utrecht nor Go Ahead Eagles will enter their Matchday No 26 clash in high spirits following a series of negative results in March.

Utrecht looked to have found the right formula when they held PSV Eindhoven to a 2-2 stalemate before destroying Sparta Rotterdam 0-3 on the road in mid-February.

However, the team have suddenly decided to stop playing defense since then. They claimed two losses and one draw in the last three games across competitions, conceding eight goals in the process.

The most painful defeat was the shocking 1-4 home failure to half-amateur side Spakenburg in the KNVB Beker quarterfinal.

Utrecht’s back line did not look any better last weekend when they shared spoils with NEC Nijmegen in a 2-2 draw on the road.

Go Ahead Eagles were not in action last weekend, meaning they had an extra week to try and recover from the 4-1 defeat at the hands of Cambuur on March 5th.

Much like their counterparts, Go Ahead shipped two or more goals in three of the previous four league affairs.

Unlike FC Utrecht, though, the visitors are yet to secure survival in the top flight of Dutch football. They are now only six points above Excelsior in the danger zone.
