Farul Constanta vs FC Sheriff

Farul Constanta and Sheriff Tiraspol make one of the most interesting matchups in the opening round of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League qualifications.
Farul have written an incredible story in Romanian football in the last several years. They played second class football just two years ago after declaring bankruptcy.
One of the most legendary players in Romanian history Gheorghe Hagi, famous former defender Gheorge Popescu, and former Stuttgart striker Ciprian Marica confirmed a merge between the clubs they owned back then, Viitorul Constanta, Viitorul, and Farul Constanta respectively in 2021.
The team’s maiden league title has come as a consequence last year. Farul are thus on the rise at the moment and they are aiming to translate the magnificent domestic results into European success this summer.
The first obstacle will by no means be an easy one as it comes in the shape of FC Sheriff Tiraspol who are regular participants of group stages in Europe.
Sheriff played Europa League group last year, beating Omonia Nicosia twice along the way. They came third in the section with Manchester United and Real Sociedad and were eventually stopped by French Ligue 1 side Nice in the last 16 round of the Conference League.
FC Sheriff have a much richer experience in continental competitions and we can by no means underestimate them ahead of this matchup, although the bookmakers see the visitors as the underdogs in the first leg.
Farul have invested a lot of money in the last couple of years and we expect them to continue thriving domestically and to leave a big mark in European football this summer already (if not through the Champions League then through the other competitions).
That said, we can’t ignore Farul’s poor form in recent friendlies (especially in attack) and their Super Cup loss to Sepsi. We expect a very tight affair without too many chances at either end.
