Peter Green - February 14, 2019
Excelsior vs FC Emmen
Netherlands – Eredivisie
Date: Sunday, 17th February 2019
Kick-off at 13.30 UK/ 14.30 CET
Venue: Stadion Woudestein (Rotterdam).
This battle at the bottom end of the table is sure to produce sparks. Both teams, especially the hosts are in danger of getting relegated this season. It’s high time that they get to the bottom of things and start producing results. The competition has entered its final phase.
These squads also boast of having conceded the most number of goals in the Eredivisie. And considering the special circumstances, viewers could really expect a fierce end-to-end battle for the three points on offer.
Forgetting the impending danger, there’s scope for glory too. Not many points separate the bottom-tier teams from the top-most ones. In fact, Venlo, which occupies the final Europa League spot, is just seven points adrift from the relegation zone.
An interesting tie with far-fetching effects is on the cards.
Adrie Poldervaart’s men have the hugely beneficial home advantage going in their favor. Also, 16 of the last 21 h2h wins were registered by the home teams of that specific match-days. And importantly, of the 12 meetings these teams have had at the Stadion Woudestein, ten resulted in wins for the hosts, and one was a stalemate. Holding good to the course, I expect the Kralingers to avoid a loss at all costs.
Coming to goals, 11 of the 12 meetings at this venue had the hosts scoring two or more goals, and six of these had them registering three or more. On top of that, the team from Drenthe has conceded in their last 17 road trips running, and five in their last one alone. Expect at least two goals from their counterparts this Sunday.
