England vs Colombia
FIFA Women’s World Cup
Date: 12 August 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 11:30 UK / 12:30 CET
Venue: Stadium Australia (Sydney).
England and Colombia will lock horns in the last quarterfinal affair at the 2023 FIFA World Cup on Saturday when they take on each other at Stadium Australia in Sydney.
The Lionesses somehow found a way to survive a very difficult Nigeria challenge in the round of 16 clash on Tuesday, despite a massive setback in the form of a Lauren James red card kate in the regular time.
The European champions held on to penalties and eventually dispatched the Africans as no goals were scored in the 120 minutes of play on the occasion.
Sarina Wiegman’s troops will be without the best player so far in the tournament as James is suspended. The goods is the return of Keira Walsh to the starting XI as she seems to have fully recovered from an injury that kept her away from the pitch.
England are big favorites according to the bookies and we do expect them to justify the tag against the South American sensation.
Colombia have written one of the most impressive stories by reaching the World Cup quarterfinal for the first time in their history.
They’ve done so by beating Germany and South Korea in the group phase. Nevertheless, they did offer a couple of subpar performances in the previous two outings (a 0-1 defeat to Morocco in the group stage and a 1-0 win over Jamaica in the last 16 round) and we believe their fairytale journey has come to an end here.
England have conceded only a single goal in the last five matches, including four at this tournament. Colombia, on the other side, struggled a lot to create chances in their previous two games.
The Lionesses are thus well worth backing to win to nil on Saturday at the 2.00 odds while we alternatively like the look of the 2.40 odds offered for England to have the lead at the half time and win the match at the end.
