Steffen Schmidt - May 2, 2023
Empoli vs Bologna
Italian Serie A
Date: 4 May 2023, Thursday
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Stadio Carlo Castellani (Empoli).
Empoli prolonged their slump in form by falling 2-1 away at Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon. It was the third subsequent defeat for Paolo Zanetti’s men who have not been pulling up any trees of late.
Empoli entered the final ten minutes of the last weekend’s game with a goal and a player advantage following Andrea Pinamonti’s red card for Sassuolo.
However, they still managed to drop it all and concede two late goals by Domenico Berardi to mark the third subsequent loss.
Zanetti’s squad are now only five points above the relegation zone and they will be highly motivated to bounce back on Thursday evening in the home clash against Bologna.
It will be much easier said than done, though, especially considering Bologna’s performance on Sunday night against Juventus.
I Rossoblu held La Vecchia Signora to a 1-1 stalemate four days ago, registering as many as 16 attempts at their Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on the occasion.
The team led by Thiago Motta did lose the previous away game to the relegation-threatened Verona (2-1) but it is still their lone loss in the previous seven Serie A outings.
This is a big game for Empoli who are in desperate need for points but we just can’t trust their defensive line at all after the displays they have shown in the last couple of games. Also, Empoli have managed to find the back of the net just two times in the last five league outings.
We will take Bologna to win at the 2.55 odds (despite their horrendous record at Stadio Carlo Castellani), while the value is also in the 2.62 odds offered for the visitors to net two or more goals on Thursday night.
