Steffen Schmidt - August 18, 2023
Elfsborg vs Mjallby
Swedish Allsvenskan
Date: 20 August 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 16:30 UK / 17:30 CET
Venue: Boras Arena (Boras).
Elfsborg suffered their second loss in the last three Allsvenskan rounds last weekend, falling 1-0 away at Hammarby.
They are now just one point above Hacken and Malmo at the top of the league table and they can ill afford another slip-up on Sunday in the home fixture against Mjallby in Matchday No 20.
Nevertheless, bouncing back against Mjallby will be anything but an easy task for Jimmy Thelin and his men. The visitors jumped to the sixth position in the league standings on the back of three victories in the previous four rounds.
They have improved their defensive performances drastically in the last couple of weeks, keeping their net untouched in the back-to-back wins over Varberg and Malmo.
The fact they have dispatched the likes of Malmo (who desperately needed a win in the title race) six days ago says enough about their defensive stability.
When you pair with Elfsborg’s lack of cutting edge in the final third in recent weeks, you get a very tricky matchup for the current Allsvenskan table-toppers.
Neither of the previous two outings Elfsborg played produced two or more goals. Can the hosts find the right attacking rhythm here against the stern back line of Mjallby’s?
Elfsborg lost two of the last three league matches. They have also beaten Mjallby just once in the last five H2H encounters. The visitors enter this tie on a high after claiming a big Malmo scalp on Monday.
We will back Mjallby not to lose by two or more goals difference as the main pick at the 1.70 odds while you can alternatively take the Under 2.5 goals FT bet at the more attractive 2.10 odds.
