Steffen Schmidt - July 10, 2023
Dudelange vs St. Patrick’s Athletic
UEFA Conference League Qualification
Date: 12 July 2023, Wednesday
Kick-off at 18:30 UK / 19:30 CET
Venue: Stade Jos Nosbaum (Dudelange).
Dudelange host St. Patrick’s Athletic in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League first qualifying round on Wednesday evening at Stade Jos Nosbaum.
Dudelange became the first team from Luxembourg to reach the group stage of any continental competition in the 2018/19 season when they made it to the Europa League groups.
They have eliminated the likes of Legia Warsaw and CFR Cluj in the process. They have repeated success the following year, going past Shkendija, Nomme Kalju, and Ararat-Armenia in the qualifications after getting eliminated by Valletta at the start of the Champions League qualifying process.
Dudelange finished both these groups at the very foot of the standings, managing a single victory in twelve outings along the way, a 4-3 success against APOEL in the 2019/20 campaign.
Nonetheless, we must recognize a big downhill in the team’s European efforts in most recent years.
Dudelange were stopped by Irish side Bohemians 0-4 on aggregate in the second round of the Conference League qualifications in 2021/22 season, while they suffered three separate eliminations in three competitions last year, to the likes of Pyunik, Malmo, and Lech Poznan respectively.
St. Patrick’s Athletic have never made it even to the playoffs of a European competition. They managed to eliminate Slovenian Mura on penalties in the second qualifying round of the Conference League last season before falling to CSKA Sofia on the next obstacle.
It is worth noting that none of four games St. Patrick’s Athletic played in Europe last year produced three or more goals.
The Saints should be in a better competitive form having played 25 games in the 2023 Republic of Ireland Premier Division this year. They have lost just one of the last nine domestic outings.
This should be a close game without too many chances on either end which is why we will take the Under 2.5 goals FT pick as the main betting option at the odds of 1.65. Alternatively, you can even shoot for the goalless draw as the correct score punt at the 8.50 odds.
