Steffen Schmidt - July 5, 2023
Drogheda vs Shamrock Rovers
Irish Premier Division
Date: 7 July 2023, Friday
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Weavers Park (Drogheda).
Shamrock Rovers suffered their fourth loss of the season seven days ago when they fell 2-0 at Dundalk in the derby of the Matchday No 22.
The reigning champions and the current Premier Division table-toppers will be looking to bounce back on Friday as they visit Weavers Park for the Gameweek No 23 clash against bottom-half Drogheda.
The gulf in quality between the two teams is significant and the defending champions should not face too many problems here.
Shamrock are still four points clear at the top of the standings. They boast the league’s best attacking record with 47 goals in 24 outings.
Drogheda are third from bottom in the league table after 22 games. They have lost six of eleven league fixtures on the home patch this term.
Drogheda also lost three of the last five league matches and they will go into this off the back of a 1-1 stalemate against recently-promoted Cork City last week on the road.
Kevin Doherty’s side have not kept a clean sheet in 14 successive matches. This is by no means a promising stat ahead of the clash with the deadliest attacking line in the competition.
Shamrock are big favorites on Friday and we expect them to justify the tag and boost the spirits ahead of the clash against Breidablik in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round next Wednesday.
The visitors will be additionally motivated after a 2-0 loss at Dundalk last week. You can back Shamrock Rovers to win at the 1.57 odds. We will also take the visitors to score two or more goals at the 1.61 odds knowing that Drogheda’s back line has been anything but impressive in the last couple of months.
