Peter Green - August 7, 2019
Derby vs Swansea
England – Championship
Date: Saturday, 10 August 2019
Kick-off at 15:00 UK/ 16:00 CET
Venue: Pride Park (Derby).
Derby almost pulled off a miracle the last season in the playoffs. After qualifying for the post-season by a narrow margin, they were defeated by favorites Leeds in the first leg of the semifinals at home, only to record a massive 2-4 away win in the return fixture, to progress to the finals.
But there, they missed out on their golden ticket for a single goal, which cast them back for one more year in the second division. After the close call, they will be determined to go all the way, and their intention was on full display the other day in their win over Huddersfield.
Things could get slightly complicated as Swansea comes visiting. They too have begun with a victory, and they were a major player in the run for the playoffs too in 2018-19.
Swansea may have recorded some fine wins in the pre-season, but do not let it cloud your judgment. The team had struggled to keep a level head in away ties, and towards the end of the last season, was on a series of seven straight losses on the road.
On the other hand, disregarding their loss against Leeds, Derby was unbeaten in their last seven home ties in the Championship, and the last four were wins.
In addition, the team is also unbeaten against Swansea in the last nine years and has scored two or more goals in every such meeting at this ground bar once.
Everything points toward a victory for the home team.
