Peter Green - July 29, 2019
Debrecen vs Torino
Europa League Qualification
Date: Thursday, 1 August 2019
Kick-off at 17:30 UK / 18:30 CET
Venue: Nagyerdei Stadion (Debrecen).
Torino brushed aside Debrecen with ease in the initial leg between the two sides by an impressive 3-0 scoreline.
Three different players got their names on the scoresheet for the Italian outfit in that game, which was certainly one-sided in every aspect.
Debrecen struggled to make an impact in that tie and managed not more than four weak attempts at goal, none of which were even on target.
In comparison, their foes threatened to score on twenty occasions, seven of which made the goalkeeper work.
The hosts were also reckless following the restart and forced the referee to blow his whistle on six instances.
The return clash is unlikely to be any easier for Debrecen, who will have to get their act together quick if they are to avoid being at the receiving end of another embarrassing defeat.
Torino dominated the previous encounter with Debrecen and they did so in a very convincing fashion.
The side from Italy lost just twice in their trips on the road last season, and have just one defeat to their name in their last five outings.
The home team came out on top in their last clash at this venue, which was a 3-0 win against Kukesi in the previous round of the qualifiers. However, Debrecen have nowhere near experience of going up against sides like Torino who battle every week in one of the toughest leagues in Europe.
We can certainly expect Walter Mazzarri’s men to clinch the win without breaking much of a sweat in their clash on Thursday.
Torino were certainly keen on finding the back of the net right from the opening forty-five minutes last time out, with two of their three goals coming before the break. The Debrecen backline does not look capable of containing Torino’s men upfront and are likely to concede at least once before the end of the first half.
