De Graafschap return to the league duties after suffering a tough 0-3 loss to country heavyweights Ajax in the last week’s KNVB Beker quarterfinal.
The mere fact they have made it to this stage of the Dutch cup says enough about the team’s quality, especially since they have done it in a generally disappointing campaign in the second class of Dutch football.
However, it is worth noting that new manager Richard Roelofsen has managed to shift De Graafschap’s fortunes around since taking over Adrie Poldervaart exactly a month ago (through health issues).
De Graafschap have managed back-to-back clean sheet wins over Roda JC and FC Eindhoven in the previous two league game, netting six times in the process.
Roelofsen’s men hold the 13th position in the league table and will be looking to make amends for a disappointing overall campaign and secure a strong finish to the season in the remaining outings.
Helmond Sport sit four points behind their Monday counterparts in the bottom half of the Eerste Divisie standings.
The visitors own the weakest attacking record in the whole league with only 23 goals scored in 26 games so far in the season, which is catastrophic for the standards of this competition.
It is, however, worth noting that Helmond managed seven out of nine points from the previous three league affairs without conceding a single goal along the way.
Both De Graafschap and Helmond Sport have done very well defensively in recent weeks and we have enough reasons to back the low-scoring scenario when they come face to face on Monday night.
