Steffen Schmidt - March 23, 2023

Croatia vs Wales
EURO Qualification
Date: 25 March 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Stadion Poljud (Split).

Croatia return to action for the first time since another staggering World Cup campaign this Saturday as they play host to Wales in the opening fixture of the 2024 EURO qualification campaign.

The Croats have had an exceptional year with the top spot in their Nations League group ahead of Denmark, France, and Austria, and a bronze medal at the World Cup in Qatar.

Head coach Zlatko Dalic is determined to finally get a gold medal with this team and he will have a nice chance at the closing tournament of the UEFA Nations League in June this year as Croatia take on Netherlands in the battle for the final of the competition.

The Croats have two tricky fixtures at the beginning of the 2024 EURO qualifying process as they take on the likes of Wales and Turkey (their biggest two rivals in the group) in the next three days.

Croatia are very hard to beat in front of their fans. They have won four of five World Cup qualifiers on home soil, keeping their net untouched in each of these four victories along the way.

Wales also featured at the World Cup in Qatar last year but only to see the exit after three group stage matches, winning just one out of nine possible points in the section with England, United States, and Iran.

The country’s legend Gareth Bale said farewell to the national team after more than a decade of spectacular performances for the Dragons.

Head coach Rob Page will face hard times turning the new page of Welsh football without the team’s main star. The quality of the rival in the opening fixtures by no means helps his case.

Croatia vs Wales Head-to-head

  • Croatia won four and drew two of the last six head to head games against Wales.
  • These two outfits met each other in the qualifying campaign for the previous EURO as Croatia took four points from two meetings with the Welsh outfit.
  • We have seen goals at both ends in each of the previous three head to head outings.

Croatia vs Wales Prediction

Croatia rarely concede goals on home soil. Wales could need time to adjust to life without Gareth Bale. The home win to nil is the way to go at the 2.37 odds.

The braver punters who like correct score punts can try with Croatia to win 2-0 at the odds of 6.50.

Croatia vs Wales Betting Tips

  • Croatia to win to nil @ 2.37 (11/8)
  • Correct Score: Croatia 2-0 @ 6.50 (11/2) odd.
