Peter Green - February 11, 2019
Crewe vs Carlisle
England – League Two
Date: Tuesday, 12th February 2019
Kick-off at 19.45 UK/ 20.45 CET
Venue: Alexandra Stadium (Crewe).
The Cumbrians face a real test this Tuesday as they travel to Cheshire, in pursuit of a spot in next season’s League One competition. They have been delivering top-notch performances in the recent weeks, but their opponents for this tie, the Alex, are really strong at holding the fort in front of their home crowd.
Both were eliminated from their domestic cup duties long back, and this has helped them in concentrating on the task at hand. The Blues have made the most of this free time and posted nine wins from the eleven match-days since.
David Artell’s men, meanwhile, dropped their habit of conceding easy goals, and the stringent defense helped them in registering four wins in their last four attempts at home.
Despite the gap in league standings, both come to this tie on even foot, considering that the higher team in the league table is on the road and that the hosts have been really good at home for the last two months. The Railwaymen won their last four home-ties in a row, and six of the last seven. For Steven Pressley’s men, it’s one of the most tensed stages of the season. The team has done a good job so far, but nothing permanent has been achieved yet.
If they need to see through their objective of getting placed in the promotion list, they have to keep going with their form.
As these two teams with great will go at each other, it’s hard to foresee a winner. One thing’s for sure though. Both will be extra careful in defense. Bet your top dollar that mistakes will be negligible in this game.
Also, their h2h history suggests a defensive approach from either side. Figuring all of these into my analysis, I expect the first half to end in a drawn scoreline (0-0, most probably), and the match to end with fewer than three goals.
