Peter Green - August 1, 2019
Club Bruges vs St. Truiden
Belgium- First Division A
Date: Saturday, 2 August 2019
Kick-off at 19:30 UK / 20:30 CET
Venue: Jan Breydel Stadion (Brugge).
Club Bruges got off to a flying start in their opening game against Waasland-Beveren, which they won by a 3-1 scoreline. Vanaken picked up a brace along with a single from Okereke to hand last year’s runners-up a much deserved three points in that clash.
The squad certainly dominated the tie with twenty-two shots on target out of their attempted twenty-five, which was a stark contrast to what their opponents could manage.
The visitors failed to pick up any points in their respective opening matchup against Mouscron, which saw them admit defeat by a 1-0 scorecard. Despite both the sides taking equal shots at goal, St. Truiden were far from clinical in their efforts and consequently lost the game.
With their first home clash ending in a loss, the away team will have to dig deep and bounce back with a much better performance if they are to salvage at least a point this week, as they travel to take on a Club Bruges side who will be looking to make it two wins out of two.
The hosts were the highest-scoring team in the league last season and scored thirty-six goals on home soil while conceding just fourteen.
Another interesting statistic would be that Club Bruges have never lost against St Truiden at this venue in any of their previous meetings.
Given the home advantage and their impressive record at home, Club Bruges are the all-out favorites to clinch back to back wins when they lock horns on Saturday.
Three out of their last four ties against each other have been high scoring ones and have seen a total of thirteen goals, out of which the home team alone scored ten. Considering that both teams have also scored in two of their last three meetings as well, it certainly will be safe to expect more than 2.5 goals on the scorecard with goals down each end.
