Chelsea host Liverpool in the derby of the opening round of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign on Sunday afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

Both teams are hoping to improve on their dismal runs in the previous term of the competition.

Chelsea have had their worst ever Premier League season and the worst English premier division campaign since 1922/23.

The fact this has come just after the record-breaking signings have arrived at Stamford Bridge is truly fascinating.

The Blues have once again been very active on the market and it remains to be seen whether Mauricio Pochettino will be good enough to bed in the new arrivals and to take the maximum advantage of the talent at his disposal.

Christopher Nkunku has undergone a knee surgery and will not feature in the Premier League for at least a couple of months, leaving the team handicapped right at the beginning of the season.

The main man up front should be Nicolas Jackson who had 13 goals and 4 assists in his breakout campaign with Villarreal last year in La Liga.

The striker has shown decent form in preseason and he should be the biggest threat to the leaky Liverpool defense on Sunday.

As for the Reds, they’ve had the worst Premier League season under Jurgen Klopp, finishing only fifth in the previous term of the competition.

They’ve strengthened midfield by signing Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis MacAllister and they currently have all important players available.

Will we have one of the best teams on the planet once again at the Anfield? The preseason performances look promising, especially attacking-wise, but it remains to be seen whether Mohamed Salah and company can translate this form into competitive games.
