Steffen Schmidt - April 3, 2023
Chelsea vs Liverpool
English Premier League
Date: 4 April 2023, Tuesday
Kick-off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Stamford Bridge (London).
Neither Chelsea nor Liverpool are pulling up any trees going into their head to head clash in the postponed match of Gameweek No 8 on Tuesday evening at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have decided to divorce from a short and unsuccessful marriage with Graham Potter after the weekend’s defeat to Aston Villa in London.
Chelsea took just one point from the last two home outings against Everton and Aston Villa. They have won just two of the previous nine Premier League affairs.
The loss to the Lions dropped them into the bottom half of the standings. While we are waiting to see who their new manager will be, the Blues are looking ahead of a very tough fixture against Liverpool on Tuesday.
The Reds won’t enter the tie in any higher spirits after falling 4-1 away at Manchester City in the first game of the previous round at Etihad Stadium.
It was the third consecutive loss for Jurgen Klopp and his troops who offered a horrendous defensive showing of the occasion.
Liverpool have generally been struggling to perform on travels since the beginning of the season. They lost 8 of 14 Premier League games on the road this term.
Chelsea shipped at least two goals in each of the last two league games, while Liverpool’s back line looked dreadful on Saturday afternoon in Manchester. Regardless of the recent head to head trend, we can hardly imagine either team keeping a clean sheet this time around.
Both teams to score is thus the way to go at the 1.61 odds. Mohamed Salah scored his team’s lone goal three days ago at Etihad Stadium. He will have plenty of space to deliver past the leaky Chelsea back line on Tuesday, and we will back the Egyptian star to score anytime at the 3.00 odds.
