CFR Cluj vs Politehnica Iasi
Romanian Liga I
Date: 15 July 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 19:30 UK / 20:30 CET
Venue: Stadionul Dr. Constantin Radulescu (Cluj-Napoca).
CFR Cluj will have a nice opportunity to get off to a right-footed start to the 2023/24 Liga I campaign on Saturday evening as they play host to recently-promoted Politehnica Iasi at Stadionul Dr. Constantin Radulescu.
The consecutive five-time Romanian champions had a disappointing run last season, finishing the Championship Round only in third place and barely qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League after a hardly-fought 1-0 win over Universitatea Craiova 1948 in extra time in the playoffs.
They have done a bit of a rebuild ahead of the new season, appointing Italian managed Andrea Mandorlini as the new head coach.
We’ve also seen some exciting signings made from the team in the offseason and we can expect another push for the title from Mandorlini’s troops this time around.
Politehnica Iasi, on the other side, returned to the elite tier after a two-year absence. They have played six friendlies this summer, managing only two wins despite facing low-profile opponents in the process.
The team led by Leontin Grozavu played a goalless draw to Bulgarian side Levski Kumovgrad in their final preseason check eight days ago.
The difference in quality between these rivals is significant and we expect the hosts to control the happenings on the pitch from the first to the final whistle. You can back CFR Cluj to have the lead at the half time and win the match at the end at the odds of 2.05.
Alternatively, we like CFR Cluj to win to nil at the 1.80 odds knowing they have conceded just four goals in the last eleven home outings against Politehnica Iasi.
