Steffen Schmidt - August 24, 2023
Cardiff vs Sheffield Wednesday
English Championship
Date: 26 August 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: Cardiff City Stadium (Cardiff).
Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday have collected a grand total of one point combined in the opening three rounds of the 2023/24 Championship campaign.
It came courtesy of Cardiff’s 2-2 stalemate away at Leeds on the opening day of the season. Sheffield Wednesday, on the other side, started the higher-division life with three defeats in three games.
The two outfits will now lock horns in Matchday No 4 on Saturday afternoon at Cardiff City Stadium in a very important affair for both managers.
Speaking of them, both Erol Bulut and Xisco Munoz have taken over their predecessors at these two clubs this summer.
Based on the performances we have seen from the two sides in the early stages of the season, they both lack defensive meticulousness.
Cardiff have thus allowed two goals in each of four competitive outings this season, including the 2-2 draw to lower-division Colchester in the first round of the League Cup.
They did allow a late goal away at Leicester to lose 2-1 last weekend at King Power Stadium, but it was yet another weak defensive showing by Bulut’s troops in general.
Sheffield Wednesday have the second-worst defensive record in the whole division with seven goals allowed in three inaugural matches.
They shipped four goals in the lone away fixture so far in the season, falling 4-2 away at Hull City 14 days ago.
Both Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday are leaking goals with ease at the beginning of the season. Nevertheless, we expect a different type of game on Saturday when they come across each other with massive stakes on the line for both managers.
We expect a huge tension on the pitch and the Under 2.5 goals FT is the best betting option in these circumstances at the 1.61 odds. Alternatively, we will opt for Cardiff’s win at the 2.10 odds knowing how poor the Owls have looked at the start of the season.
