Steffen Schmidt - February 3, 2023
Brest vs Lens
French Ligue 1
Date: 5 February 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 16:05 UK / 17:05 CET
Venue: Stade Francis-Le Ble (Brest).
Brest made it four consecutive league games without a defeat by holding Lyon to a goalless draw away at Groupama Stadium on Wednesday evening.
They found a way out of the red zone after claiming four points in the previous two league rounds.
However, new manager Eric Roy (took over a month ago) still has a mountain to climb to rescue this team.
He will face another very difficult challenge on Sunday afternoon when third-places Lens come to visit Stade Francis-Le Ble for the Matchday No 22 game.
Lens will be desperate to arrest their short slump in form having failed to pick up a three-pointer in either of the previous two outings.
The team led by Franck Haise suddenly offered back-to-back weak attacking displays against the likes of Troyes (a 1-1 draw on the road) and Nice (a 0-1 defeat at home).
Lens dropped to the third position in the league ladder as a consequence. They are now once again six points below leaders PSG, following a 1-3 victory for the reigning champions in mid-week’s clash at Montpellier.
Knowing that Brest have done very well defensively in the recent games, we can see the visitors struggling to break them down on Sunday.
This is a big game for both teams and we expect a tight and nervous affair without too many goal-scoring chances. It should be pretty much a completely opposite outing to the one we had the chance to see two weeks ago when these two teams locked horns in the cup tie.
However, we do expect Lens to eventually come on top simply due to their quality. Our value pick would thus be Lens to win & Under 2.5 goals FT at the 4.00 odds. You can also take the visitors to win 1-0 at the 7.00 odds.
