Steffen Schmidt - August 11, 2023
Brentford vs Tottenham
English Premier League
Date: 13 August 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 14:00 UK / 15:00 CET
Venue: Gtech Community Stadium (Brentford).
Brentford and Tottenham will open Sunday’s Premier League schedule with their clash at Gtech Community Stadium.
The Bees have failed to secure a single preseason win which is the run of form you don’t want to have ahead of the clash with Harry Kane and company.
It will be very interesting to see whether Danish manager Thomas Frank will find a way to replace Ivan Toney who was the third most efficient striker in the whole league last year, just behind the likes of Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.
The Bees have not done much job on the market as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoanne Wissa are expected to lead the line for them in the first half of the season.
Mbeumo has suffered an injury in recent friendlies and his appearance comes under a question mark on Sunday.
The Bees were toothless in the final third in their latest check which ended in a goalless stalemate against French Ligue 1 side Lille eight days ago.
Spurs are still amid another Harry Kane transfer saga. The club legend has already been sent to Munich several times this summer and it seems that his German deal will finally go through.
We thus expect to see Richarlison in the starting XI from the first minute on Sunday. The Brazilian has shown solid form in preseason and he also led the line in the mid-week’s 4-2 loss at Barcelona.
Brentford have shown defensive holes this summer in preseason. Knowing they’ll likely be without Bryan Mbeumo on Sunday, we don’t trust their offensive line to do much here either, despite the fact that Spurs defense looks as leaky as ever.
We will back Tottenham to win as the main option at the 2.45 odds while the second pick would be Richarlison to score anytime at the odds of 3.10.
