Bragantino and Bahia celebrated comprehensive 3-0 victories over Chapecoense and Santos respectively last weekend. Which of the two sides can back up the opening win and keep a perfect record after the second round of the Serie A clash at Estadio Nabi Abi Chedid?
Bragantino translated their stellar continental form to the start of the domestic league seven days ago when they demolished Chapecoense 0-3 on the road.
It was the third straight victory for Mauricio Barbieri’s troops who are clearly aiming sky-high this season in the Brazilian top flight.
The hosts will thus come into this match in the highest of spirits following an impressive run of three subsequent Copa Sudamericana victories over Emelec, Talleres de Cordoba, and Deportes Tolima.
Such a streak moved Bragantino to the very top of a challenging group in the continental competition, helping them qualify for the knockout stage.
Bahia will, unfortunately, not continue their continental adventure following a third-place finish in their respective Copa Sudamericana group.
They also disappointingly ended the Campeonato Baiano campaign by falling 1-3 on aggregate to Bahia de Feira in the semi-final.
However, the team led by Dado Cavalcanti managed to bounce back from such failures by storming past struggling Santos 3-0 at the start of the new Serie A campaign.
The home court advantage has played a massive role for Bragantino in the history of this match-up.
Bragantino have a brutal record of six wins and one draw in seven home clashes against Bahia who have only managed to find the back of the net once along the way (17-1 gal difference).
Bragantino celebrated a demolishing 4-0 victory in the previous meeting with Bahia, played in mid-November last year at this stadium.
We have plenty of reasons to back the hosts here. First of all, they’ve won three successive Copa Sudamericana matches to top their respective group in style. They also demolished Chapecoense 0-3 on the road last weekend at the start of the new Serie A campaign.
Finally, Bragantino have a fantastic home record against Bahia and anything but another comprehensive victory for the hosts would be a serious surprise for us here.
