Steffen Schmidt - March 20, 2023
Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Iceland
EURO Qualification
Date: 23 March 2023, Thursday
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Stadion Bilino Polje (Zenica).
Bosnia and Herzegovina will host Iceland in an important first-round fixture of the 2024 EURO qualifying campaign on Thursday evening at Stadion Bilino Polje in Zenica.
This is the clash between two direct rivals in the battle for the second place in the group, assuming the top spot is reserved for Portugal.
Bosnia-Herzegovina will be hoping to translate the fine run of results from UEFA Nations League as they topped the group ahead Montenegro, Finland, and Romania to advance to the highest-ranked League A of the competition.
The Bosnians have been especially impressive in the home fixtures during the mentioned campaign, winning all three games in Zenica and keeping two clean sheets in the process.
Interestingly, the team’s board decided to make a managerial change despite the mentioned success as Faruk Hadzibegic took over Ivalyo Petev on the bench.
Iceland, on the other side, had a disappointing campaign in their respective Nations League group, coming second with four draws in four outings against Israel and Albania.
Iceland have not scored two or more goals in any of the previous eight matches across competitions and we do not have many reasons to expect them to create much in the final third in this road clash against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We also have to mention Iceland’s dismal campaign in the previous World Cup Qualifications as the team only managed to beat only Liechtenstein (twice) in ten games against Germany, Armenia, North Macedonia, and Romania.
Bosnia and Herzegovina will enter the match in much higher spirits and they will have the home court advantage on top. With a striker as prolific as Edin Dzeko up front and a strong defensive line led by Sheffield United’s Anel Ahmedhodzic, we have enough reasons to back the home win bet at the 1.80 odds.
Edin Dzeko is the best scorer in the history of the Bosnian national team with 64 goals in 126 appearances. We will back the Inter Milan star to score anytime at the odds of 2.00.
