Ligue 1 football is back! For the first time since March when the pandemic caused the league to end abruptly we can rejoice that one of the major European leagues kicks off this weekend.
It will start when Bordeaux host Nantes on Friday evening, which is the same day as the Europa League final in a calendar which has chaotic because of the Coronavirus.
Bordeaux have had a mixed pre-season where they lost 4-2 against Saint Etienne then drew 0-0 away to Toulouse however in their last game they went to Reims and beat them 4-0 which sounds encouraging and was a good result. Striker Nicolas de Preville has been in good form scoring a couple of goals in those games and remaining a constant threat.
Nantes have had the majority of their pre-season games cancelled however in their last game they beat Le Havre 3-1. This match is set to be a close one with observers believing that there isn’t much between the two sides.
Nantes have a poor record at this ground and simply don’t like playing Bordeaux. The home side will want to put in a good confident showing in the first game of the season.
Jimmy Briand likes scoring against Nantes and the player should be backed to do so anytime.
We don’t expect many goals, but we think Bordeaux has the quality to get over the line and get all three points with a solid victory here.
